Pahalgam being a famous town is around 45 km from Anantnag district. It is located on the banks of Lidder river. It is one of the best tourist destinations as one can not only enjoy the beauty of this town but also be adventurous by involving oneself in many recreational activities. The adventurous activities in Pahalgam include golf, trekking, fishing, horse riding, mountaineering, camping and much more. The best time to visit this town is between March to November. It is also known as “Shepherds Village”

The golf course in Pahalgam has been set up for tourists so that golf players can enjoy their holiday to the fullest. This 9 hole golf course has now been extended to 18 hole course. The private hoteliers and the state government organize the golf championships during summers. The tourists during this time seek help from pine trees to get some shade while they are watching the game by surrounding the trees. This popular golf course is situated on the valley of Pahalgam. The height of the golf course is approximately around 2400m above sea level.

The golf course also has a tiny club house that offer refreshments apart from other equipments and caddies. It is a high altitude golf course which is very calm and comfortable. There are shops, restaurants as well as parking area near the golf course. One can reach the golf course either by hiring a taxi or pony ride and one can also walk up as the distance is not much from the town.

Thus Pahalgam is indeed an adventurous town and is a beautiful tourist destination. There are several attractions which you may not want to miss. There is an ancient temple of Lord Shiva in a village known as Mamal which is very close to Pahalgam. This is a temple worth visiting which is why most tourists go to this temple during their visit to Pahalgam. It is believed that this temple of Shiva is the oldest temple in Kashmir. The town has many other sightseeing places like Amarnath cave, Panchtarni, Sheshnag lake, Baisaran, Chandanwari, tarsar lake, Lidderwat, Aru, Kolohi and much more.
